Growth and Change - Starting 2010 eBay has entered a new phase of change and growth and it is the perfect time to join the community. There is an EXCITING future ahead.

The conversations of, “1.3 million people earning living from selling on eBay” came from a 60 minutes interview with the then CEO of eBay Meg Whitman and later reflected upon by presidential candidate John McCain. I bring it up here because the number is large and though the argument for it has support from studies traced to a 2006 study conducted by ACNielsen. The arguments against come from commentators asking the question, “What does making a living mean”? Either way, it really does not matter to me, nor should it  to you because the number is large enough to show that a LOT of people are generating enough income to be newsworthy,  including us. The numbers that I have heard are really closer to 600,000.

That said, selling on eBay is different for everyone and both success and measure will be different for varying situations. So yes again, that number is large, and lets stay on the conservative side of 600,000 but not forget eBay does have 248 million registered users, is currently in 39 countries and in 2006 eBay buyers purchased $52 billion dollars in merchandise. That is $52 billion being purchased not from eBay directly but from the community of sellers, both large and small and there is no reason why some of that should not be from your sales.
